Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: KS-WY-11
Station Name: Kansas City West
Report Date: 2/24/2024
Submitted: 2/24/2024 3:08 PM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
As we transition from winter to spring, the soil conditions in our area are starting to dry out and are in need of moisture. Additionally, tree buds are beginning to show signs of swelling as temperatures remain in the 60s and 70s, which is more reminiscent of April weather than the current month.

The early signs of swelling in tree buds indicate that plants are responding to the warmer temperatures and longer days. While this is a natural part of the spring growth process, the early onset of bud swelling may leave trees vulnerable to late frosts or freezes that could harm the delicate buds. While the warm weather is very welcome, here is hoping that we can hit pause on the mid springtime weather and return to weather more fit for February.
