Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;
There were SIX days with measurable precipitation [Rain] and zero days with trace precipitation for a total of 2.23”, the past seven days [Sunday-Sat]. River and stream volume the past week increased greatly over small lake dams west of this station. As of Sunday morning, 5/11; one was moving at 100% percent the width of the dam 6.5 miles from this station at a fast volume with much observable turbidity. The other, 2 miles to the west, also increased, covering now 100% of its respective fall and moving at a similar volume with a lot of observable turbidity. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station had observable play again this past week. The ground around this station is hydrated / wet and soft to walk on. Grass and weeds required maintenance the past week. Maple trees are looking well and their Juvenal seed pods began to fall on mass on 5/5 and as well, the newly planted bluebells last year, bloomed. No Bumble Bees were observed the past week. The three 25’ tall juvenile Oak Trees juvenal leaves continue to mature. House Finch were active this week along with Cardinals, Mourning Doves and a single Raven. The Song Bird feeder was not refilled this week. Neighborhood Rabbit(s) and chipmonks were also observed.
Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 4.22 inches of precipitation. There has been 48 days of precipitation the previous 129 days of CY2025 [1/1/2025 to 5/10/2025] for a “Calendar Year” total of
15.84”, compared to 50 “Precipitation Days” and a [CY] total of
23.09” the same [year to date] in CY2024. So far, compared to last year; this station has received 7.25” less precipitation than a year ago. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are;
YTD2023- 18.04”
YTD2022- 18.21”
YTD2021- 15.60”
YTD2020- 14.89”
YTD2019- 19.64”
YTD2018- 21.49”
YTD2017- 17.27”
YTD2016- 16.87”
YTD2015- 13.36”
The running ELEVEN year average reported precipitation for THIS station is: 17.66” inches, bringing this station to a deficit of 1.82” from the 11 year average. Considering the eleven year annual comparable total for this station and the amount of Rain the past seven days, is why I believe that it is appropriate to return this week’s report on the “near normal” side of the Condition Scale Bar.
