Station Name: Helotes 2.4 NNW
Date: 3/31/2013 5:38 PM
Submitted 3/31/2013 7:05 PM
Taken at registered location: False
Notes: 5:39 PM -- Driving on IH-10 towards NW out of downtown San Antonio. Very dark cloud to North, towards the SAT airport. Heavy rain such that windshield wipers could not keep up, traffic slowed to about 30 MPH. Hail began around the Culebra exit, near continuous racket of small hail punctuated by much more impressive "BANG!!!" We exited Interstate at Crossroads Mall exit (One mile inside of loop 410), and waited it out under a tree. Sent a hail report via PING. Hail ended that location at 5:46 PM. My guess is that most of the hail in the penny size, with about a dozen big hits -- guessing those were the quarter size. No hail accumulation on the ground. Returned home to registered location and only received .05 at the house NW of Helotes.
